The story of Jephthah in Judges 11 is a strong warning that people should be extra careful about the words they speak. Jephthah made a harsh vow to offer a human sacrifice to the Lord, a practice of the other nations  who worshiped false gods in that time; such practices the Lord explicitly forbade (Deuteronomy 12:30-31).

People who are not careful with their words, people who often tell jokes will suffer the consequences of their idle world. Jesus told his disciples, "³⁶ But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12::36-37)
