Nowadays everyone can have their own Bible, or more than one Bible to read. But in time past, Bible reading was a communal activity where the church gathered together to read or listen to the word of God being read. When we read a few chapters of the Bible together as friends, brothers and sisters, we come close to recreate that atmosphere.
